Forensic medicine includes all legal-biomedical activities studying biological, chemical and biochemical processes from a legal stance.
The disciplines include: forensic pathology, forensic toxicology, forensic odontology and forensic genetics, who have their own status but often overlap.
On the academic side, which is just as important as the research, forensic medicine include in-depth study of all biology aspects that concern the law, meaning here:
Health and Professional Responsibility Law (civil and penal);
Private and Social Health Insurance Law;
Public Medical Care Law;
Methodologies in damage evaluation;
Criminology and criminalistics.All these aspects denote the specificity of these disciplines and therefore a necessity to have a dedicated unit inside the department.
