Within the Department of Health Sciences (DSS) of the University of Florence, technology transfer represents a strategic tool for promoting innovation in the healthcare, medical, psychological, and forensic fields. Through technology transfer, the DSS builds a bridge between academia and the clinical, industrial, and institutional worlds, allowing scientific discoveries, therapeutic innovations, and organizational models to translate into practical applications for the benefit of public health.

In particular, the DSS facilitates the process of transferring knowledge and technology by:

• promoting an internal culture regarding the enhancement of intellectual property rights and encouraging the filing, maintenance, and exploitation of inventions (primarily patents and copyrights) arising from the department's teaching and research activities;
• promoting an equitable, balanced exchange regulated by non-disclosure agreements between its members and businesses, public entities, biomedical start-ups, and healthcare institutions operating locally, nationally, and internationally, thereby encouraging co-development research activities or contract research;
• fostering an internal culture of academic entrepreneurship that, in conjunction with dedicated technology transfer offices, can encourage the creation of start-ups within the academic environment and support the recognition of academic spin-offs.

These strategic actions allow ideas and technologies developed within the Department to be effectively transferred to the market and care settings, generating economic, social, and healthcare benefits. The scientific and technical support, advanced training, and resources provided for designing innovative solutions aimed at fostering the growth of multidisciplinary collaborative networks and the adoption of new clinical and technological practices demonstrate the Department's commitment to promoting Technology Transfer across all areas of interest within its Academic Disciplines.
