"Decidi Tu" (You Decide) is a project created with the goal of informing and raising public awareness about the importance of the right to self-determination in healthcare. In a context where medical choices can profoundly affect quality of life, this project aims to provide people with the knowledge, skills, and motivation to make informed decisions about their health, even in situations of serious illness or end-of-life care.
The project is promoted by a broad network of academic institutions, third-sector organizations, and healthcare bodies, including the University of Florence and its Departments of Health Sciences, Humanities and Philosophy, and Political and Social Sciences, the School of Human Health Sciences, and representatives of the Student Body. In addition, third-sector organizations such as Fondazione ANT Italia Onlus, the Italian Foundation of Lenitherapy (FILE), Fondazione TuttoèVita, and the Florence branch of the Italian Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association (AISLA) collaborate with the support of the Careggi University Hospital, the Careggi University Hospital Clinical Ethics Committee, Palliative Care and the Clinical Ethics Committee of the USL Toscana Centro Health Authority, and the Order of Physicians, Surgeons, and Dentists of the Province of Florence.
Talking about the right to self-determination is essential to building a more conscious and responsible society. Often, these issues are addressed only in critical or emergency situations, when it is more difficult to reflect clearly on one's wishes. "Decidi Tu" aims to engage young adults in particular, providing them with knowledge tools to help them develop critical awareness regarding their healthcare choices.
The right to self-determination is guaranteed by the Constitution and is an essential principle for independently deciding on the care to receive. Knowing tools such as Advance Healthcare Directives (DAT) and Shared Care Planning (PCC) allows individuals to express their wishes in advance, ensuring they are respected even if they become unable to communicate them in the future.
"Decidi Tu" includes a series of initiatives to spread awareness and promote dialogue on these crucial topics:

"Decidi Tu" does not merely provide information, but aims to generate a cultural shift: encouraging open dialogue on end-of-life care, treatment choices, and the importance of making informed decisions. Self-determination is not only a right, but an opportunity to navigate one's healthcare journey with greater peace of mind and responsibility.
Participating in "Decidi Tu" means contributing to building a more informed, supportive society that respects the wishes of everyone. Because the right to choose is not just an option, but a fundamental value to be protected.
